EBD ProBio Delivery Platform

Standardized delivery automation — Success story

About the Company

Efficient Business Design (EBD) is a fast-growing marketing agency that specializes in helping first-time entrepreneurs launch their businesses and secure paying clients quickly. EBD offers a range of consulting services and tailored programs designed to accelerate the success of new ventures.

In addition to consulting, EBD resells marketing software, providing new business owners with cost-effective, turnkey solutions to streamline their operations and marketing efforts.

Challenges

In 2022, EBD decided to expand its software offerings by introducing a new service called ProBio, a SaaS platform similar to LinkTree. ProBio enables business owners to create simple, professional pages with pre-built functionality, eliminating the need for expensive, complex websites. However, EBD had no prior software development experience or an internal team, leading them to outsource 100% of the development.

Given EBD’s small size and limited income, their key requirements were to minimize development and maintenance costs while ensuring a rapid, incremental release cycle to meet the demands of a growing market. The outsourced team built a functional MVP using modern technologies, incorporating a microservices and microfrontend architecture.

Due to EBD’s lack of software development experience, they overlooked the need for automated software delivery. As a result, despite the microservices architecture enabling quick development of new features, the testing, packaging, and deployment processes became increasingly complex and error-prone. Releasing a new version of the system, consisting of dozens of components, took over a month—nearly two months even for small updates—and infrastructure costs exceeded expectations.

EBD approached Enterprise Innovation Consulting (EIC) for its Better Delivery program to help automate their software delivery platform, streamline the process, and reduce costs.

The Solution We Proposed

Given that EBD had a greenfield implementation with no legacy systems to manage, they opted for the Basic Package of the Better Delivery Program. This choice provided a solid foundation for automating their software delivery without overwhelming their limited budget.

EBD outlined several key specifications for their platform: a Kubernetes environment on AWS, a Golang microservices backend, an Angular-based microfrontend, and BitBucket as the source code version control and build system.

Additionally, EBD requested enabling releases into production as quickly as possible, with a manual quality gate to ensure reliability while still allowing rapid development.

What We Did

We started the project with a one-week Discovery phase, during which we thoroughly reviewed EBD's current development state and refined their requirements.

Recognizing the urgency of unblocking their software development process, we adjusted our initial implementation plan to prioritize automating the most critical parts of the delivery platform.

Initially, we scripted the production Kubernetes-based environment and automated the CI/CD pipelines for both Golang microservices and Angular microfrontends. Leveraging the existing infrastructure, we provisioned three environments: one for continuous integration (CI), one for staging, and one for production.

We then manually deployed the system’s latest version and enabled incremental pipelines for both backend and frontend components, ensuring faster and more reliable updates.

By the end of the first month, we completed a simple vertical slice of the system, demonstrating the working pipeline to the development team. We also guided the team through automating their delivery processes in their most basic form, effectively unblocked development.

With development unblocked, we proceeded to complete the remaining tasks: setting up optimized development and test environments to reduce costs, securing the delivery infrastructure with automated maintenance processes, finalizing the product packaging, and implementing a delivery dashboard with key metrics to monitor performance.

By the end of the third month, we had rebuilt the vertical slice. We provided comprehensive training for both the development team and a newly hired operations team tasked with maintaining the system in production.

The Result

The Better Delivery program fully automated the delivery platform for EBD’s ProBio SaaS, resulting in a significant transformation of their release process. The release cycle, which previously took nearly two months, was shortened to less than one week, with the flexibility to implement daily production releases if needed.

Additionally, the infrastructure costs were reduced by more than half, providing a more sustainable financial model for the company.

By the end of the project, full ownership of the delivery platform was successfully transferred to EBD’s development team, ensuring they had the knowledge and tools needed to maintain and manage the system independently moving forward.

Performance Improvements:

8x faster time to market

2x lower infrastructure cost

5x lower automation and maintenance effort

We faced a huge challenge when we launched our ProBio SaaS. We had no internal software development experience, and after outsourcing the work, we quickly realized that deploying new updates was taking forever — almost two months just for small changes! Our infrastructure costs were also way above what we had budgeted for.

That’s when we turned to Enterprise Innovation Consulting for help. They completely transformed our process by automating our entire delivery platform. They worked with our tech stack, streamlined everything, and within a few months, we went from painfully long release cycles to being able to roll out updates in less than a week. In fact, we even have the option for daily releases if needed.

And on top of that, our infrastructure costs dropped by more than half. They didn’t just fix the problem—they trained our team and handed over the entire platform to us, so now we can manage it on our own. It’s been a game-changer for us.
